Soccer!

We started our school year a little bit early, due to the heat and promise of more comfortable weather later in the year (one homeschooling bonus is that you can take a week off in November when the weather is nice instead of being stuck inside!). And the kids have been hard at work both with school, and also with ballet (for the girls) and soccer (for my boy). It’s not often that I’m allowed to shoot ballet classes (it’s disrupting for some reason), and my girls kind of roll their eyes at me when I pull out the camera, but I had this conversation with my son the day before his first game:

“Mom, are you going to take a lot of pictures at my game tomorrow?” (in an eye-rolling tone of voice, mind you)
“Why, do you want me to?”
“Well, yeah…”
“OK, then, I will.”

So, I took a lot of pictures, but I promise, I’m only going to inflict two on you today. I’m feeling a little nostalgic because he actually just had a haircut and lost about two inches all around. He said that his hair was getting in his face when he played. I wonder why?

It was brutally hot and at one point, a ball was kicked directly at me (I guess the lens was a big target?), but they won:
This game was a bit cooler…getting there, but not quite! And they won this one, too!

I freely admit to knowing nothing about soccer, beyond the obvious, but I think that will change this year. He’s moved up to U12 (under 12) and with that, they’ve started calling things like “offside”. I know what that means now, just in time for the third game.

This post is my son’s soccer team, the Panthers. They are playing really well–better each week–just haven’t pulled out a win yet. I’ve been taking pictures and thought I’d try my hand at posting a slide show in the blog itself, something I’ve never done before. (If you are wondering, this is similar, but smaller, to what I show my clients now, and I usually slow it down and play somewhat less peppy music.) Go Panthers!

first soccer game!

Last weekend was really Michael’s first soccer game, but they mixed up the teams and made it a fun day, so today was the first one that counted. I took pictures, of course, and although the uniforms were present, they only were there for today’s game, so no one’s shorts matched and we had some wild socks, too. (Michael had wild shorts, but not wild socks, if you want to know.) So as I was processing pictures, I thought I’d play more than usual with black & white and some funky color processing. It was really fun, plus I entertained myself with some gritty post processing work, which is really not something I get to do very often!
