I had a great time with Olivia in downtown Fort Myers for her senior pictures. She’s lovely and intelligent and artistic, and looking at a future in marine biology. Science was always one of my lesser subjects, so for me, this just adds to her already elevated level of awesomeness.

Salvage

I was given the opportunity to do some potential publicity shots for Salvage, a show which will be performed in downtown Fort Myers in May. It’s a collaboration of dance, poetry, film, and music. We kicked around a couple concepts, and my suggestion was to create an image which would be very simple visually. It also involved a certain amount of patience on my model’s part, as I experimented with lighting (with the added bonus that my children had to be “helping” at this one due to circumstances beyond our control).

I was especially pleased with the starburst we captured here:

Dancers’ feet astonish and fascinate me. I’m so impressed with their strength and flexibility. Doesn’t her left foot almost look like someone’s hand here?

I met Rachel and her awesome family in downtown Fort Myers just before Christmas to shoot some senior pictures and family pictures, too. I decided I’d just show off Rachel here (and wow, did I have a hard time narrowing down how many pictures I’d use for this post!). Picking the images for the post was hard, but Rachel certainly made my job as her photographer super easy! After this session, I was wishing two things: 1) that I could go back and do my senior session over; and 2) that I had ever been, even for just a minute, half as gorgeous as Rachel is. I would probably also take back my spiral perm, so make that three things.

Sorry about that confession. But I don’t miss the spiral perm and all the hair that went with it one bit. Rachel (and family!), it was a pleasure!

I really enjoyed this home portrait session. It was a fun afternoon with a great family, even with my “assistant” (aka my squirrelly nine year old son) along to “help”. When I saw their awesome front door and the beautiful white dresses, I wanted this shot. When I got it home, it felt like a painting to me, so I processed it accordingly. Isn’t she beautiful? The whole family is just stunning!

I had the privilege to go meet a new family at their beautiful home here in Fort Myers last week. I’m running behind on pretty much everything, scrambling a little bit with vendors’ holiday deadlines, so I’m just taking a minute to share just one from this session. Before I share it, I’d like to point out that what I share here on the blog are my favorite shots, or images that pique my interest somehow, although they aren’t always the picture we were aiming to get. With this one, I just loved her sweet laughing face (you know she’s looking at her mom, don’t you?), and wanted to play with it some. Isn’t she a darling? Her big sibs are wonderful, too, but I’m saving those pictures for you, Leslie!

If you are on facebook, you may have already seen these on my business page there, but I haven’t had a chance to blog them just yet. I live near a golf course (OK, doesn’t everyone in Florida?) and there are a couple stands of trees at the end of the second hole which have just been fascinating me. I think that they were planted to cover up a lot of concrete that was dug up and deemed not worth the trouble of carting off, maybe? Anyway, beautiful Lauren was willing to come explore them with me!

Jenna and I had a quick mini session to celebrate her pearly whites–that’s right, no more braces! She is always gorgeous, but it was so fun to hang out with her to celebrate this milestone. She thinks I’m a little crazy, but that’s OK by me, as long as I can keep taking her pictures!

I just came home from a really fast trip to Jackson Hole, Wyoming, to enjoy the wedding of one of my dearest friends and college roommates. I was really torn about whether or not to pack my camera, because, after all, I was going to Jackson Hole, Wyoming, and the wedding was held in the national park. I mean, seriously, what idiot would not take her camera?

Me, that’s what idiot. I flew up on Wednesday and left bright and early Friday morning, so was in Jackson for maybe 36 hours? Somehow the weight of the camera just outweighed the desire to carry it on five different flights. Actually, I’m glad I didn’t take it, as I got to really just sit and enjoy being a part of the celebration. I did pack our faithful old Sony point-n-shoot, with its whopping 4.1 megapixels, and still managed to come home with pictures I could enjoy.

Can you imagine getting married with this as your backdrop?

OK, I wish I had my real camera here, because this shot would probably have been in focus, but I loved the look on Phoebe’s face here (that’s her new hubby she’s looking back at as they recess). She was just radiant the whole day.
We took the “inner” road back to Jackson after the wedding and enjoyed stopping to take some pictures along the way. This scenery was really incredible.
I just liked this tree branch and wanted to play with the black & white. I don’t normally get to crank the contrast like this.
Next time I go to Wyoming, I’m taking my camera. And I’m going to stay for longer than one day.

Meet Allie. She is a fantastic girl, full of passion and spunk and all kinds of awesomeness (she is also a senior!). We got to hit downtown Fort Myers, which was kind of like a photography playground (who’d a thunk it?), and then, because Allie is a sailor, we visited a couple of her boats. Well, not hers personally, but boats she loves. Because let me tell you, she loves ‘em. I kind of felt like Bill Murray from “What About Bob?” because I am not a sailor (and if you are too young to have seen that movie go rent it!) and I kept waiting to fall in the water, but I didn’t. So it was all great. Anyway, Allie and I had a great time, and I have to say that I have had the hardest time on earth picking just a few pictures for the blog because I really like way too many!

Because Allie is fun. And gorgeous. And amazing.

It’s unusual for me to have, shall I say, really cooperative subjects who are willing to sit down and smile at the camera. So this session was a bit of a departure for me, but in a fun way. We were unfortunately derailed a bit by the weather. As I was pulling up, the sky was a bit gloomy, which is fine, and there were some scattered raindrops, which is not great, but still doable, and within two minutes we were treated to some torrential rain and a first class exhibition of real Florida thunder (if you don’t live here, I’ll just say one nickname I’ve heard for our area is the “Lightning Capital of the World”. We ended up with a truncated shoot, but still got some lovely pictures.

I know these two look like mother and daughter–they are actually aunt and niece! There are some good genes here, aren’t there? Katie was down to visit her aunt and enjoy some of our lovely Florida beaches and weather (don’t worry, she did get some of our beautiful sun as well as this incredible storm!). Andrea is actually a model, author, and speaker who has a heart for women and teenage girls to learn about their true beauty.

In a portrait, sometimes it’s fun to have one person step back a little so that the other is the focus. To me, this next image shows a little something more about Andrea and Katie’s relationship–not just the fun side, but I can really see the pride and love and tenderness that Andrea feels for Katie.
