I told you I’d have more images to share from the MOPS Simplicity. fundraiser! If you missed the first round of MOPS images, go check them out. I have so enjoyed looking at so many of these beautiful faces; they are just a lot of fun.

I just have to tell a funny story on myself in sharing these images. Check out this gorgeous kindergartner in the first picture. I was so impressed with her gorgeous hair and her older brother told me that she (with the help of her mom) irons it every day (is that the right terminology?). I said, “WOW! Would you believe that I don’t ever brush my hair?” They looked at me and without missing a beat, they answered right back in unison, “yes!” I love my super short messy hair, but I guess one byproduct is that it looks kind of like a bird’s nest on my head. Yes, I’m letting it all hang out here today!

If I can, I may be able to blog one more round of these sweet faces. For now, enjoy!

light: a novelty.

I say it’s a novelty because although my children are in countless pictures, and it’s getting harder and harder to shoot them because they make these incredible faces for the camera, when I get to do something novel like break out a studio light, they are surprisingly willing to help me out by “testing” for me. (Not, of course, that it prevents them from making some super goofy faces anyway!) I recently shot new pictures of the staff for the website at our church, and the kids came along for the morning. They’re a surprisingly good-looking bunch of people (totally tongue in cheek… if you find a familiar name you can see why I have permission to say that!) Here are some of the kids’ test shots.

Just one for y’all today… we’ve gotten out to Sanibel a couple times recently with the new puppy for an evening picnic and have really enjoyed it. Both times it was low tide and the water was so calm, leading out to kind of a sandbar that was just the right depth to walk on or sit on. I loved the sky on this night last week so I made the kids plop down for a shot. My only disappointment with this beach is that it faces more or less east, so the sun sets behind us.

And before you ask, yes, this is what my children wear for most of our family pictures. Finding shots where everyone has clothes on is actually quite a challenge! The trials and tribulations of a Florida mom…

first soccer game!

Last weekend was really Michael’s first soccer game, but they mixed up the teams and made it a fun day, so today was the first one that counted. I took pictures, of course, and although the uniforms were present, they only were there for today’s game, so no one’s shorts matched and we had some wild socks, too. (Michael had wild shorts, but not wild socks, if you want to know.) So as I was processing pictures, I thought I’d play more than usual with black & white and some funky color processing. It was really fun, plus I entertained myself with some gritty post processing work, which is really not something I get to do very often!

I confess, at this point I don’t even know what day these pictures are from. The good news is that all the pictures are online in the (protected) MOPS proofing gallery! It’s been a long week, and a tough one, as I’ve been picking the best pictures from each session (no mean feat with 70 sessions going on!), and it was complicated by a last minute frightening computer crash (fear not, no images were lost), but we’re in good shape now. I couldn’t put the galleries up without sharing some more eye catching images with you:

Did I mention that I have a lot of pictures to sort through? The task is looking a little more manageable, and I still have to say it is fun fun fun to see all these beauties parade across my monitor. Again, this is not necessarily a representative sampling, just some that caught my eye as I blew through:

I have to say, I’ve really enjoyed doing this project. MOPS has a special place in my heart and it’s nice to know that I can give back to our group. The steering team who toughed it out with me and set up the whole thing was just fantastic (really, all I had to do before last Thursday was just show up with my camera). Wow, this sounds like it’s my last MOPS post, but it’s really not, because you know I have a bunch of Friday pictures to go through still!

Y’all, I can’t even begin to tell you how very tired and sore I am tonight, but I wanted to share some pictures on the blog with you. I told you that I was helping my church’s MOPS (Mothers of Preschoolers) group with their spring fundraiser, by agreeing to spend a couple of days taking pictures. Let me tell you, that was some work! I come home from one family session just about worn out, and this was two straight days of it. I have only started to go through my thousands (yes, thousands) of pictures, but I’m ready to quit for the night. Couldn’t go to bed, though, without sharing some shots that caught my eye from this morning (these pictures may have been from sessions before my morning break. It will take me days just to share a not even representative sampling of pictures with you!):

It’s a great job, when I can spend two straight days looking at faces like these, isn’t it?

So I’ve made it to the end of a long week as a single parent (OK, I have a few more hours to go until Andy is home; he’s been on the east coast all week taking a class) and I haven’t completely lost my mind. Whew! I decided to complicate my life a bit this week, continuing to research and explore exciting options for (photography). There is now a FAQ page (look, right up there in the upper right corner) for your pleasure and perusal. I will explain that I tend to be very stream of consciousness in my writing so there may not be a question on there that really should be… I will add to it as I think of them, or you ask me them. I have also opened a (virtual) storefront! Feel free to go visit. Which makes me think, if I’m going to invite you to visit I ought to open up a gallery to you for exploration. I’ll do that after I squelch the squeals and giggles coming from the bedroom.

One last picture to leave you with–spent yesterday afternoon with some friends at their family “real Florida” property, complete with bag swing. This was one of my favorite shots of the day. Every time a child was on the swing there was just an ear to ear grin. Awesome.
