Shane and Helen received a fabulous baby present from a friend…a newborn photo session to document their new family unit! Their new son is perfect and thriving. And I just have to give a public shout out to Helen, because she looks absolutely fabulous! (Sorry, Shane, it’s all about her right now.) We had a lovely, peaceful session together. I’d like to show you one of the most beautiful two year olds (as of this week) on the planet. She can’t help being beautiful; it’s in her genes. And, what’s even better, is that she is about to be a big sister!

You know, I look at my own children and am hard pressed to pick out my own or my husband’s features in their faces–to me, my children just look like themselves, not miniature versions of either of us. I’m sure friends of ours would disagree, though! My beautiful sister-in-law came for a visit this spring with our newest nephew, and let me tell you, I think he looks just like a [darling] miniature version of his dad. Who is actually very tall and slim–it’s something about the eyes, I think. But he’s giving my brother’s children some stiff competition for cutest nephew on the planet, wouldn’t you agree?

The only problem with the visit was that it was not long enough! I’m ready for another visit so I can enjoy some more baby snuggles.

I spent the last six weeks making Christmas cards and gifts instead of blogging. Take it or leave it, that’s my excuse for being so behind! If you like my facebook page, then you will recognize this family from there, but I loved their pictures so much that I wanted to share them here too! We met on a beautiful afternoon at the beach for our session and didn’t get too chilly until towards the end. Aren’t they lovely? Everyone just relaxed and had fun, especially the youngest (if you can’t tell, she was totally into having her picture taken!).

Side note…this was my first session with my new 5DII…my trusty 5D being resuscitated by Canon at the time. It’s exciting but the transition is not as seamless as it was when I upgraded to the 5D originally. It’s pretty fabulous, though, and I sure didn’t have any issues loving the images we created!

I met this beautiful family at my girls’ ballet studio and was really excited when they asked if we could set up a session together! You can see why, can’t you? Beautiful. I won’t even tell you how flabby I felt next to this gorgeous mom who is busy training to run a marathon. OK, I felt pretty flabby. But I forgot all about that as soon as I looked through the lens at them. Look! (Don’t skip the thumbnails, either, OK?)

Side note: if you were interested in booking a photo session for holiday pictures with me and hadn’t done it yet, I’m sorry to say that I am booked through the end of the year. I’m currently booking sessions for early 2011 (where on earth did 2010 go??).

I met this beautiful family on a lovely Saturday afternoon (shhh! don’t tell the boys I said they’re beautiful, but seriously? They are!). Even though we weren’t at the beach, some dolphins came by for a visit and even joined in a family photo! I just have to love that about Florida. Seriously.

I’m always humbled to spend time with older families. I look at how a family grows, and travels, and think about my children going off to college, and creating their own lives and growing new families someday, and I hope that the journey with them will be as delightful as is has been so far, and that the end result will be wonderful. I trust it will. Visiting with Jan and Howard’s family on their vacation gave me a glimpse of how exciting it will be. The joy on their faces, just being around their children and grandchildren (who don’t live anywhere near Fort Myers, so they don’t get to see them nearly as often as they would like!), is just so evident. And what’s not to be proud of? Six beautiful grandchildren, and fabulous children, and everyone is as nice as they could be. They even laughed at my one joke (which I won’t tell you because I might need it. We’ll just say it works on six year old and their parents, but not twenty year olds. More on that later.).

Jan, Howard, thank you for sharing your family reunion/vacation with me!

So, last week, I had this delightful family session where everyone was a grownup (or close enough to count). Mainly, that meant that they all listened and did what I asked them, except when they weren’t, which happened more often than you might think. We laughed a lot; at least, I did! I love seeing the other end of the family spectrum–this group includes newlyweds, a college grad starting an exciting job, a high school grad heading for college, and one last high school student to stay home and enjoy being an only child for a little while. I look at how my children are growing and learning and I can’t wait until they are at these ages, so that I can be as proud of them as Jan and Kevin (understandably) are. Well, I can wait, because I don’t want them to be old enough to date and stuff like that, but I know you know what I mean!

I had the opportunity this week to revisit Alana and her family… last year I visited them at home. I love getting the chance to see how these babies grow and change, and how the family as a whole grows together. It’s also a lot of fun to visit different places, too! I had a really wonderful time with these guys, despite the heat and the looming storm (both standards for Florida in June!). You will be happy to know that these children are as sweet as they are beautiful–I got big hugs at the end of the evening. That, my friends, is a win in my book.

I met this sweet family out on Sanibel Island (if you don’t recognize the landmark on your own) while they were here on vacation. We could have asked for better weather, but the rain held off for us (it did rain on me as I was driving home!). Amy is one of the three beautiful daughters and she is the force behind Big Woods Creative. Check out her work–I love the wedding invites with the birch trees and her favorite images of 2009? Woooowwwww. I think my next vacation will be to go visit her.
