I recently bought Dirty Pictures from Totally Rad, which is basically a plugin for Photoshop to make it easier to add textures to your images. I don’t normally do a lot of textures on my images, partly because I don’t always see it working, and partly because it’s more time than I want to spend sometimes. Well, a new toy is always an excuse to play, and so I took two of my favorite shots from a recent session and played with them. Of course, playing isn’t fun if you can’t do show and tell, too. What do you think?

My first edit:

Dirty Pictured (Dirtied Picture? What’s the appropriate verb?:

Original (clean and lovely but kind of austere):

Dirtied (I really love how this one warmed up):

I have to say, I really enjoyed the layout and interface of the plugin, and I loved that I could make it render previews of all the textures using the actual image I was working on. It made it super easy to decide right away which textures I was interested in using and which ones I might have to delete from my computer entirely.

I have been distracted and a bad blogger. I have things I’d like to show you but then discovered that I needed to share something important with you right this very minute and I could not take the time to get all fancy with lots of pictures. So, you just get one… my girls in Jackson Square in New Orleans. I don’t know what the flowers were (from some trees), but I thought they were pretty. I have since discovered that they apparently also stain, as the backs of the girls’ shirts are, well, stained. Look at the picture and then read about the SALE.

Here’s my fun news: my canvas provider is having an incredibly awesome sale!! Which means that I, too, can have an incredibly awesome sale!! Doesn’t matter if we did your pictures last week, last month, or last year, if you have been wanting a canvas, you should buy one now! Here’s the details:

16×20 gallery wrap canvas is $105 (add to cart).

16×24 gallery wrap canvas is $125 (add to cart).

20×24 gallery wrap canvas is $145 (add to cart).

These prices even include shipping! This is an awesome sale, because normally the 16×20 is $250. You do the math, and then shoot me an email (or click the “add to cart” links)! You don’t even have to pick the image out first, and if you’re not sure, it might be safest not to, because the sale price for me only goes through Sunday. To reserve your canvas at the sale price, I need to your order in to me by 3pm on Sunday (that would be August 1), so that I can get my order in to them.

My little site is in the featured gallery for the brand new ProPhoto theme!! I love this theme and if you are a photographer and tweaker, please check it out. I’ve been part of a group beta testing the new bells and whistles on this baby and it rocks.

For those on the fence about buying this theme, go ahead and jump.

This is more than a theme, or just another template. Jared has put together a “theme management system”, for lack of a better phrase. Even if you consider yourself “not a computer person”, if you can click a mouse button, you can take this and make it completely your own. What you see on my blog is just the surface of what this theme is all about. Where it really stands head and shoulders above the crowd is on the back end.

If you are a photographer and are interested in learning more about this template, please visit Jared’s site (you can use code RCORNETT232 for an extra $10 off… that code would be all capital letters, which of course doesn’t show here!).

This note is for those of you who are still looking at your galleries, contemplating ordering a brag book. If you’re wanting a brag book for yourself or for family for the holidays, my cutoff date for regular shipping from my vendor is Sunday, December 7. They can still be ordered for about a week after that, but for an additional shipping charge. If you haven’t decided yet what pictures you want in the brag book, you can pick out your cover and page options before the cutoff date and pick out the pictures later.

So, hit your gallery, add a brag book to your cart (there is a link with all the cover samples so you can pick one out), and have your selection to me by 5pm on Sunday, December 7. As always, feel free to contact me with any questions!

I love my computers. I love learning about them, messing with their innards, fine tuning them, and making beautiful things come out of them. Generally, that’s pictures, but sometimes it’s other projects, like a presentation I recently put together for a local interior designer. Karen has this incredible eye for putting together a room (more often an entire house) and it was just a pleasure to go through different projects with her and hear her thoughts on each one. She’s just recently opened a beautiful little store called “Inspire… for your home” here in downtown Fort Myers and the presentation was done through that.

I really liked how the presentation turned out–very clean and elegant, a lot like Karen’s work. I won’t show you the whole thing, but I thought I’d share the first and last slides, just because I liked them. The first one uses an image which is actually from Karen’s store (no, I did not take this picture–a very talented local photographer does the interior shots for Karen and his images are stunning), along with a blown up version of the store’s logo.

We wanted to keep the last slide simple, so we took the Inspire logo and recreated Karen’s fun business card (yes, they are square!).

If you want to see more of Karen’s work, visit her design site. The store site is here.

Welcome to my new site AND blog! I’ve put most of the finishing touches on and swapped everything over last night. If you go to the old blog site, you’ll end up right back here at the main page. The old static site is just gone. Why the change?

I’m glad you asked. First, because I like big pictures. With this fun new blog setup, there’s only one column, which gives me more room to put up bigger pictures. The sidebar with links and the search button and everything is way down at the bottom of the page–hasn’t disappeared, just moved. The other big reason for moving everything was because I really don’t need a huge site with tons of pages–actually, there were only three or four pages over there. I can put that information up just as easily (more easily, actually) on my blog. (See the menu labeled “about”.)

There’s some kinks to work out still, and I’ll keep tweaking (because I like to tweak!), but I am thrilled to be here. Because the blog address is changed, those of you using feed readers will probably need to update your subscription–not hard to do; just do it!

Thanks for stopping by and I’ll have some new fun pictures up in the next day or so!

I read a blog entry recently which mentioned one school’s graduates’ struggles with finding lucrative employment. Apparently, quite a few students find themselves out in the real world, saddled with debt (which they thought they could readily pay off with those high dollar photo gigs). I guess that’s true in any profession–somehow everyone expects that they will strike it rich and quick. A girl named Melanie Bess Hogan is a graduate in a tough spot and has started an unusual blog as a way to pay down her debt. I only had a chance to take a quick peek but I liked what I saw and am thinking about buying a print. Or two.

I don’t know. It’s interesting, anyway… go check it out for yourself.

So this is new to me… blogging on my own site, that is, not blogging. So bear with me as I figure things out.

My first big issue was that I was supposed to come up with a name for the blog??? I hadn’t even thought that far ahead, was just thinking this was a nice place to put recent pictures that I enjoyed.

Pictures made me think of the old saying (come on, you know the one I mean), but I thought calling this “a thousand words” was a little presumptuous. But I thought it was an idea worth exploring, especially from someone who thinks that photography is like writing stories, right? If the images I share with you are supposed to tell a little bit of someone else’s story, then that’s what I’ll go with. So here are just a few words from me.
