I’m excited to be gearing up for my third year shooting for our local MOPS (Mothers of Preschoolers) group for their spring fundraiser! For the past two years, we’ve done this ninja style, borrowing an incredibly gracious family’s backyard (all right, we took over their entire house, I admit it), and I spent 2-3 days rolling around in the dirt taking pictures of all kinds of cute children. It’s been a ton of fun, but we were all ready for a little something different this year. This year, we’re stepping back a little bit, but really focusing in on just our (beautiful) children.

The theme: Simplicity. We’re setting up a very simple “room” and just having fun! We expect our kids to show up happy, silly, goofy, and laughing. If she wants to bring a favorite toy (exhibit A: my husband’s “Pooh Bear” from when he was a child–his mother saved it for us), or the rain boots he won’t ever take off, that’s awesome. The dates are March 5 & 6.

Of course, when I think of children and cherished objects, I think of my five year old and her pink blankie. This hasn’t always been her go to blankie–when she was a baby we had a small one with ladybugs and her name on it, and another that had castles and fairies, but as she grew, she decided she needed a bigger one. I think the important part of the combination is her thumb, anyway.

I do recommend that you go a step or two beyond what I did with my girl–seeing as how I didn’t brush her hair or wash the red marker off of her index finger (the index finger right under her nose). Oops.

If you are a local mom and want to support our MOPS group and get some beauteous pictures of your children (you do not have to be a MOPS member), you can sign up to be part of this event on the MOPS of New Hope website (don’t ask me for coupons or times or anything, because I don’t know). All of the coupon sales benefit MOPS of New Hope, and so does a portion of the proceeds from print sales.

I have the honor of being the photographer for the second year in a row for MOPS of New Hope. If you’re not aware, MOPS stands for Mothers of Preschoolers, and this is an awesome group, which brings moms together for fun and community. If you have little ones at home, you know how very much we need both of those!

We did this fundraiser for the first time ever last year, and it was a lot of fun (tiring, too, but mostly fun). Session coupons are $15 each–all of that money goes directly to support the local MOPS group. Each family has a 15 minute session (if you weren’t there last year, let me assure you, you can get a lot of shots in 15 minutes!) and receives a free 8×10 as a thank you gift from the MOPS group. We are selling prints and a portion of the proceeds from those sales will also go directly to the local group. Oh, maybe I should mention that we’ll be all about “play” this year… think bubbles, balls, wagons, trikes!

This shoot is open to the public. For more information, details, and to buy tickets, please do not contact me. I’m just the girl with the camera. All that kind of information is available by going to the MOPS of New Hope website. What I can do for you, though, is show you some pictures from last year. Enjoy!

I will close by mentioning that due to the work involved in this project (last year was 70 families in two days), I will not be scheduling family sessions in the second half of February through mid March. So if you are contemplating a family session for the first quarter, please go ahead and contact me now!

Well, a little birdie told me quite a few things, actually (remember I said there was some fun stuff coming up). But today, the little birdie is talking to me about minis. What is a mini? It’s a quickie session, that’s what it is! This is a great opportunity for you to get a great deal on a session and get ready for the holidays, too. Each family will get a 20 minute session (booking every half hour) and a private proofing gallery.

Here are the rules of the game:

The minis are November 8.

I’m scheduling sessions every 30 minutes. With a little wiggle time, that gives us 20 minutes per family. If you’re late, it’s going to cut into your time, not the time of family after you. (This is all to say please be on time!)

Each mini is $75, payable when you book (no payment=your session is still available for someone else).

The specific location is TBA; the general area will be within shouting distance of downtown Fort Myers.

Did I mention a surprise gift?

You’ll have 8-12 images to pick from in your proofing gallery, which will be up for ten days only.

To be registered for a mini, visit my contact page–fill out the form to send an email or you can call me. I’ll email you an invoice, we’ll pick a time, and you’ll be good to go!

Space is pretty limited. When the minis are gone, they’re gone.

Once you have registered for your mini, I’ll be emailing you with the pertinent details. This is a great opportunity to have fun family pictures and get ready for Christmas!

Coming soon: that little birdie has some more exciting news! Keep an eye out!

Have you started thinking about Christmas pictures yet? Because I have. If your thoughts are running along the lines of: “I don’t need to think about scheduling a session yet. I have plenty of time. After all, it’s only August and Christmas is at the end of December!” then you need to take a deep breath and think again. It’s already time to start thinking about getting a family session on your calendar! I have some other minor commitments this fall: two daughters in dance, a son in soccer, a college roommate getting married in Wyoming, a husband with a squirrelly schedule, and oh yes, I homeschool. I think I missed something. Anyway, in order to give y’all the service and attention you deserve, I will not be over committing myself this fall.

Anyway, the point is this: if you have been putting off a family session due to weather (trust me, I completely understand that one!) or because it’s not that close to Christmas, please stop putting it off and call me. Or email me. When my phone rings, my children interpret that as a signal to need me. I mean, really really need me. My contact information is here.

As far as the calendar goes, I can only promise prints from sessions before November 23 and orders placed by Thanksgiving. After that, if I can manage it, it’ll happen, but I can’t guarantee it. Your best bet is to schedule soon and get to the front of the line! I’ll just leave you with a couple of shots from last year that I didn’t get to blog:
