Christmas cards: cobbler’s children

I have a box of Cornett Christmas card goodness on its way to me right now, and if I am able to figure out how to print labels from my address book on my computer (I don’t remember what didn’t work last year, but I ended up writing them all by hand, and we’ll just say there are more than ten people on the list, plus my handwriting is only marginally better than Andy’s, and calling his chicken scratch is being kind), they’ll be delivered before Christmas. And for me, that’s something I can feel good about.

Of course, getting my own children in front of the camera takes some hard work and persuasion (they are happy for me to shoot soccer games and ballet recitals, but just them? Not so much.). And bribery. I promised that I would take some pictures of them with our new “puppy”. “Puppy” would be because he’s bigger than my youngest, and possibly bigger than both of the girls at this point. Having the dog along just made life a little more interesting. Overall, they were pretty cooperative, and I love the Christmas card I designed, which I will show you on the blog after they’re sent out. I thought I’d share some of the outtakes with you.

Can you even believe the molars on our dog? Yikes!

I feel like every time I’m working on pictures, I’m looking at the cutest family in the world. Maybe I just have to amend that I know quite a few of the cutest families in the world, because look, now this family, this one right here, aren’t they the cutest? I love this big shot because I asked big brother to give his sister a kiss, which he did with much gusto… but I love how still she is, and how you can see him moving… for me, I guess it’s just one of those typical big brother/little sister moments. Even better because unlike my son, he didn’t make his little sister cry once!

This was a fun one out at Lakes Park this week. We walked along the water, hung out on the bridge, and then played on the brand new playground by the train station. I participated in some scooter racing and boy did I not do well!! Evidently I need to practice more with my own kids out front.

I just pulled a few quick shots to share as I have been a bit under the weather this week (is something going around or is this the big switch from Ohio weather back home?). So, this was a fun one (alert: lots of pictures on this one, thanks mainly to the impromptu football game). I had a session with this family at the beach last year and loved it. For some reason, these boys seem to think I’m fun, which makes it more fun for me, too. This year, we played at home. Actually, that might have had something to do with it–what child doesn’t want to be told to jump on his bed??

(a note about the reading–apparently Ryan “reads” to his brother quite a bit. I loved how that series turned out!)
It seriously doesn’t take much convincing to get boys to tackle each other. Must be a guy thing.

Little brother isn’t interested in a career as a kicker.
On this last one, we were on some kind of donut/ring/merry go round gizmo at the neighborhood playground. I thought it would be fun to take a picture while we were going around on it. It’s at an angle, so if I started at the top and let go, gravity took over the spinning for me and we started going. Unfortunately, gravity doesn’t know when to stop, and I think I hit this shot right as I was falling off at the bottom (yes, the boys loved that, too).

Another mini with another beautiful family. I want to keep this little girl, just so I can look at her all day long. Guess I’ll just have to settle for looking at her pictures.

I had fun getting together with this beautiful family for a quick mini on Saturday. It was a gorgeous day, we were at the park, and we had this big white bush that snowed all over us (can anyone tell me what the bush is? The seeds reminded me of cottonwood trees back in Ohio but this is probably not what it was.).
