I met Rachel and her awesome family in downtown Fort Myers just before Christmas to shoot some senior pictures and family pictures, too. I decided I’d just show off Rachel here (and wow, did I have a hard time narrowing down how many pictures I’d use for this post!). Picking the images for the post was hard, but Rachel certainly made my job as her photographer super easy! After this session, I was wishing two things: 1) that I could go back and do my senior session over; and 2) that I had ever been, even for just a minute, half as gorgeous as Rachel is. I would probably also take back my spiral perm, so make that three things.

Sorry about that confession. But I don’t miss the spiral perm and all the hair that went with it one bit. Rachel (and family!), it was a pleasure!

I’ve had a bit of a run on older families lately and it’s been fun. I went downtown with this awesome family and explored (and lost my reflector, boo! Note to self: chain reflector to your pants or bag so you’ll know right away if you try to walk off without it!). Being with these guys really made me want to go back out and buy a pair of Converse but I think it would take more than that to make me cool.

This turned out to be one of my favorite shots even though I was specifically told to focus on the “children” (since two of them are taller than me, I get to put that in quotes). Since parents are the foundation of the family, I love to document them, too–their closeness and familiarity is awesome. I loved this shot in black and white, but I have to tell you, the color of Cherie’s eyes is incredible. That version may end up on the facebook page (you are a fan, aren’t you?). Thank you so much, Cherie & co! Loved it!

My sessions include an online slideshow for every client, which I normally don’t share here on the blog, but am going to today. I have to confess, this is one of the hardest parts of what I do, even though it’s also one of the more exciting parts! For me and for clients, it’s exciting because it marks the end of a lot of work on a session, and it means that I finally get to reveal the images to my client, in a way that is both beautiful and moving.

On the photographer’s end, however, it’s really really hard, because every slideshow is set to music, and one thing you can know about me right up front is that I am not musical. I don’t actually listen to a lot of music, even though I love it, and I have no sense of rhythm, either. Just being real, here! John King of Metta Audio is super musical, though, and he just saved my sorry self, because, get this: he writes music and now sells royalty free music for photographers, and what’s even better, he includes custom timings for ShowitWeb (remember, I said I had no rhythm? Sad, but true!). Thank you, thank you, thank you, John!

For the potential clients who are visiting, check out Betty’s family, the new and improved version (family, not pictures)! Yes, the gorgeous redhead, Megan, was David’s girlfriend for this session. She is now his fiancée!

Betty and Jim (and their boys) are some of my favorite people (ever). Their oldest is home on leave with his significant other (who is completely gorgeous) and we headed to downtown Fort Myers for a family session. You may recognize the fantabulous Jeff from his senior session. Their youngest plans on being a rock star (and I think he’ll do it too, he’s that good) and told me he wanted me to shoot his first album cover. How could I say no to that? Hope I get the chance; in the meantime I will settle for shooting their awesome family.

Jeff and I hit downtown Fort Myers for his senior pictures. He’s artistic and musical and handsome. He plans to be a veterinarian and is already hard at work on achieving that goal. I wanted to play with the style of his pictures more than I normally do for my families. I had a lot of fun, and just wanted to share some of my favorites with you.

Jenna and I had a quick mini session to celebrate her pearly whites–that’s right, no more braces! She is always gorgeous, but it was so fun to hang out with her to celebrate this milestone. She thinks I’m a little crazy, but that’s OK by me, as long as I can keep taking her pictures!

Mylissa and I have known each other for years now–our babies were in diapers together and we traded baby clothes (since when I was having girls, she was having boys). She is just a fabulous woman. Her hubby, Mark, is pretty fantastic as well. They left Fort Myers almost three years ago to start this incredible ministry called Habitat for Hope, which offers support and care for families who are dealing with the traumatic illness of a child. They’re based in Memphis, TN, which draws in families from all over the world seeking care for their kids at St. Jude and Le Bonheur. One statistic I remember Mylissa sharing is that there is an average of 350 families every single night who are in Memphis specifically for this reason. Can you believe that? They come from every state and all over the world. For the past three years, Habitat for Hope has been standing with these families, offering love and support–spiritual, emotional, and even financial. They’ve watched children get better, and they have sat with families when they’ve lost a beloved child. They are incredible.

Mark and Mylissa and their family came back to Fort Myers for a short visit with friends and family. We took Saturday morning to have donuts together at Bennett’s (heavenly) and then wandered around downtown for a bit to take pictures. The kids have all grown up looking so different from each other but wow, aren’t they beautiful??? And I loved seeing Mylissa… I think she just glows with that special radiance of a woman who is deeply loved (good work, Mark)!

oh boy, a fire!

Before you ask, this was a controlled burn put on by the City of Fort Myers Fire Department for training purposes. I don’t normally randomly stop and gawk at fires, let my children play near fires, or take pictures of fires. We were on the back side of the burn (unfortunately downwind at times!), but apparently there was a hot dog stand set up around on the other side. The girls and I had just come from a little ballet show at the Alliance for the Arts (pictures from that coming soon), so I had the camera with me anyway. Too bad Michael wasn’t with us; I think he would have enjoyed it more than they did.

I don’t know why we were standing in a lake. This is not water runoff from the house; it was coming from a valve or something on the bottom of the truck. When the truck wasn’t spraying, the water wasn’t coming out. Is it a pressure valve or something? If you know, please tell me what it is and if it’s a normal byproduct of a fire truck in action.

I had an unusual session last weekend: all grownups! We had fun, but I had to confess that I am not quite used to having subjects who listen to me and, what’s more, offer opinions too. I had a great time with this group of siblings, celebrating everyone being together for once. We took many pictures and I just pulled a few.

We did some close ups and I’m saving those, but I love to catch moments like this laugh. And I couldn’t resist the black & white, just for kicks.

OK, I couldn’t leave the other girls out altogether either:
I love the hazy sunflare on this picture. And Lowell’s smile. And Karen’s smile, too. (note: in case you are wondering, Lowell is not a sibling.)
This one I ran a Totally Rad action on to see how I liked it. I think it’s kind of fun, but I’m still thinking about it.
Brad makes the girls all laugh. Never at him, of course, only with him.

Meet Allie. She is a fantastic girl, full of passion and spunk and all kinds of awesomeness (she is also a senior!). We got to hit downtown Fort Myers, which was kind of like a photography playground (who’d a thunk it?), and then, because Allie is a sailor, we visited a couple of her boats. Well, not hers personally, but boats she loves. Because let me tell you, she loves ‘em. I kind of felt like Bill Murray from “What About Bob?” because I am not a sailor (and if you are too young to have seen that movie go rent it!) and I kept waiting to fall in the water, but I didn’t. So it was all great. Anyway, Allie and I had a great time, and I have to say that I have had the hardest time on earth picking just a few pictures for the blog because I really like way too many!

Because Allie is fun. And gorgeous. And amazing.
