I really enjoyed this home portrait session. It was a fun afternoon with a great family, even with my “assistant” (aka my squirrelly nine year old son) along to “help”. When I saw their awesome front door and the beautiful white dresses, I wanted this shot. When I got it home, it felt like a painting to me, so I processed it accordingly. Isn’t she beautiful? The whole family is just stunning!

I had the privilege to go meet a new family at their beautiful home here in Fort Myers last week. I’m running behind on pretty much everything, scrambling a little bit with vendors’ holiday deadlines, so I’m just taking a minute to share just one from this session. Before I share it, I’d like to point out that what I share here on the blog are my favorite shots, or images that pique my interest somehow, although they aren’t always the picture we were aiming to get. With this one, I just loved her sweet laughing face (you know she’s looking at her mom, don’t you?), and wanted to play with it some. Isn’t she a darling? Her big sibs are wonderful, too, but I’m saving those pictures for you, Leslie!

It is always fun to meet a family, wherever it is, but there is something really special about being invited into a home and getting to peek into a family’s life. This family is one of the sweetest I have had the privilege to meet in a long time. I love how looking at these pictures tells me a story… about the family dog, about being a little brother of a big sister (necklaces, not trucks), reading with Mom, even farmer’s tans for Florida babies. The love in this family is really palpable (there’s your word for the day, go look it up if you don’t know). Oh, and they are super cute, too!

Do you ever have a day when words just aren’t coming? For me, this is one of those days. I’m just looking at the pictures I have of this beautiful family and all I can think is that anything I have to say is going to come out like the grownups in a Peanuts cartoon. See, you’re not listening to me, are you? You’re just looking at this pretty baby, aren’t you?

I had a lovely visit with this darling family this weekend. These kids are both just beautiful! Can you believe this little guy is only six weeks old? I am so envious of his lush hair. And chubby cheeks. Big sister showed me all around the house and introduced me to Elmo, the fantastic bubble blowing machine. I sure wish I’d had one of those when my kids were that little! So, this was a fun one (alert: lots of pictures on this one, thanks mainly to the impromptu football game). I had a session with this family at the beach last year and loved it. For some reason, these boys seem to think I’m fun, which makes it more fun for me, too. This year, we played at home. Actually, that might have had something to do with it–what child doesn’t want to be told to jump on his bed??

(a note about the reading–apparently Ryan “reads” to his brother quite a bit. I loved how that series turned out!)
It seriously doesn’t take much convincing to get boys to tackle each other. Must be a guy thing.

Little brother isn’t interested in a career as a kicker.
On this last one, we were on some kind of donut/ring/merry go round gizmo at the neighborhood playground. I thought it would be fun to take a picture while we were going around on it. It’s at an angle, so if I started at the top and let go, gravity took over the spinning for me and we started going. Unfortunately, gravity doesn’t know when to stop, and I think I hit this shot right as I was falling off at the bottom (yes, the boys loved that, too).

Katie’s family welcomed home their little son just last week and invited me to come take pictures. Well, I can’t turn down an invitation like that, now can I? This family is just beautiful (Katie was one of the cutest pregnant mamas I’ve ever seen and continues to be gorgeous just days after giving birth!). We had fun and here are some of my favorite shots.

I love to watch families who are in love. And this family certainly is. Yes, it’s Jenn and Jason again (first post, second post)! I got to visit them at home this time and just take some time to look for portraits. Jackson, their dog, was our representative non-cooperative two year old. The hilarity in these first two shots is entirely thanks to his contribution to the shoot–namely, running in between the camera and the pretty people.

I love having mom and dad tickle in order to get a little giggle action happening. And of course we had to have some more serious shots, too.

Did I mention that Jackson was our token non-cooperative two year old? At this point, everyone had a ball in hand and was trying to entertain him. The different look on each face here really caught my eye.

Laura was ready to be done with the rest of us!

You know I am just a sucker for hugging and snuggling pictures. I look at this last one and I see years of patience, work, and waiting… and the reward. Then I have to go find a tissue.

Jenn, I had a great time and the girls are just lovely (but you knew that already). I will try to learn how to say “Stand behind me and make funny faces at your sister” in Spanish for next time!

Many apologies for this long overdue post, but the girls have had a bit of a chance to settle in now, so I wanted to share some images with you today. Do you remember Jenn and Jason? Jenn, Jason, Sandra, Erika, Deisy, and Laura came home from Columbia and were welcomed by family and neighbors alike. Oh yes, and me too, as I got to be the fly on the wall and take pictures. I’m just sharing a handful here, and yes, I just liked them all in black & white. I’m like that sometimes.

Jenn and Jason’s neighbors have given them a family photo session as a welcome home gift, and we’re pushing the envelope with a liberal interpretation of the word “a”. We had part one of the session this past weekend, so check back really soon for some of those images; we’ll be doing part two after swim season is over.

I got to hang out with one of my favorite family groups this past weekend…. talk about big hearts, warm, friendly, cheerful, and loving–they are all that and more! This is actually the family who cared for our dog Emma while we were out in California last year (for almost a year!), and that’s just a small example of their awesomeness.
