Shane and Helen received a fabulous baby present from a friend…a newborn photo session to document their new family unit! Their new son is perfect and thriving. And I just have to give a public shout out to Helen, because she looks absolutely fabulous! (Sorry, Shane, it’s all about her right now.) We had a lovely, peaceful session together. Enjoy the pictures!

You know, I look at my own children and am hard pressed to pick out my own or my husband’s features in their faces–to me, my children just look like themselves, not miniature versions of either of us. I’m sure friends of ours would disagree, though! My beautiful sister-in-law came for a visit this spring with our newest nephew, and let me tell you, I think he looks just like a [darling] miniature version of his dad. Who is actually very tall and slim–it’s something about the eyes, I think. But he’s giving my brother’s children some stiff competition for cutest nephew on the planet, wouldn’t you agree?

The only problem with the visit was that it was not long enough! I’m ready for another visit so I can enjoy some more baby snuggles.

It is always fun to meet a family, wherever it is, but there is something really special about being invited into a home and getting to peek into a family’s life. This family is one of the sweetest I have had the privilege to meet in a long time. I love how looking at these pictures tells me a story… about the family dog, about being a little brother of a big sister (necklaces, not trucks), reading with Mom, even farmer’s tans for Florida babies. The love in this family is really palpable (there’s your word for the day, go look it up if you don’t know). Oh, and they are super cute, too!

Do you ever have a day when words just aren’t coming? For me, this is one of those days. I’m just looking at the pictures I have of this beautiful family and all I can think is that anything I have to say is going to come out like the grownups in a Peanuts cartoon. See, you’re not listening to me, are you? You’re just looking at this pretty baby, aren’t you?

I had a lovely visit with this darling family this weekend. These kids are both just beautiful! Can you believe this little guy is only six weeks old? I am so envious of his lush hair. And chubby cheeks. Big sister showed me all around the house and introduced me to Elmo, the fantastic bubble blowing machine. I sure wish I’d had one of those when my kids were that little! Katie’s family welcomed home their little son just last week and invited me to come take pictures. Well, I can’t turn down an invitation like that, now can I? This family is just beautiful (Katie was one of the cutest pregnant mamas I’ve ever seen and continues to be gorgeous just days after giving birth!). We had fun and here are some of my favorite shots.

Having Robin over to play is a fun excuse to jump on the bed. And sit at the very edge of the dock.

I’m in Vermont this weekend, visiting my little brother and his sweet family and, of course, playing pictures. They just had their third baby this summer and so I’m splitting their pictures into two posts: today, baby Aaron, tomorrow (or the next day), the family.

I love babies in black & white. I love them in color, too, but something about black & white just emphasizes the delight of the lines of their lips, their toes, their faces. Isn’t Aaron just beautiful? I’m not biased or anything, but I know he is.

It’s funny, because seriously, the main thing I remember from when my babies were this tiny is only how very very tired I was. I know they were cute, at least I thought so, but tired is all I remember. I was more than happy, then, to be able to run over to see this little guy–he’s just beautiful! Seeing him and how beautiful his mama is almost makes me forget how thankful I am that my own are no longer that small. Aren’t they lovely?

There is just something I love about black & white images. Taking out the color (and you know I love color) just seems to give me a moment to stop and take a deep breath, just to really appreciate the sweet lines of a little one’s face (or ears. or feet. or hands. OK, you get the idea). It’s hard to believe that sweet Marissa is nine months old already! She just really wanted to get up and be moving around, but we still managed to get some pretty sweet shots.
