black & white conversions

I had a question the other day about the difference between the black & white options I offer and why I say that a warm black & white is my favorite. I’ll take one picture so you can see the difference. I will also say two things by way of a disclaimer: 1) Which option you like best is purely personal preference (my favorite may not be your favorite!), and 2) the difference is pretty subtle (between straight b&w and warm b&w).

This little sweetie was our smallest MOPS subject and she was asleep when she came. Didn’t even wake up too much on us, so it was peaceful. I love sleeping babies.

Here she is in sepia. Sepia is a nice vintagey touch to a picture.

Here she is in straight black & white. She is still darling, but for me, the feel of the picture is just a teensy bit on the cold side. Yosemite in black & white worked great for Ansel Adams, but when I look at a baby picture, I want to feel like I can snuggle her.

Here she is in the warm black & white. I told you it was pretty subtle, didn’t I? Well, it is, but to me the image feels just a bit warmer and snugglier. I think it’s something about the skin looking a little more like skin.
Like I said, it’s totally personal preference, and yours may not be mine, which is why I will print it the way you tell me to. But just so you know, the warm one is my favorite.

Oh! I should also add that we have our local pickup dates set for the MOPS pictures. If you want to pick them up locally and can’t be at the MOPS picnic on May 10, I will be in the back lobby of New Hope from 9-11 am on Friday, May 2. You can pull up into the covered drive through, hop out, pick up your prints, all without unloading your car seats if you don’t want to. Click New Hope’s name for a map. There is no PDO that day.

Rabia - You’re right, it is subtle. I’d need to see the images side by side to be able to tell the difference. :)

Jen Glover - Robin,
I agree! Love the warm! Thank you for the beautiful pictures and your help with the orders. HUGS! ~Jen
